The Rutgers Film Bureau in the Mason Gross School of the Arts, in partnership with the Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, the Rutgers Climate Institute and the Liberty Science Center, is creating a multi-platform climate science film series entitled Destination Unknown: Our Changing Planet and Summer Science Filmmaking Academy.
Climate change stories will be documented by Rutgers Film Bureau undergraduates, faculty and staff featuring at least 20 scientists and social scientists during their field research at locations in the U.S. and abroad. Products of this research will include developing best practices for engaging youth of two age groups in science learning through the process of narrative documentary filmmaking.
Short science films will be co-produced by undergraduates for distribution via New York/New Jersey PBS stations and various social media platforms. Final products also include an interactive Destination Unknown website allowing visitors to travel to 10 Climate Hotspots and view films made by summer Science Film Academy participants
